Foundation Leadership

The Founder and Executive Director of HMFFML is Mark A. Morenz-Harbinger.

Mark was raised and educated in Illinois, where he enjoyed teaching in the public schools and doing marketing management for several non-profit organizations while earning a Masters in Education. His work in IT Education eventually shifted to a career as a Systems Administrator/Analyst and Research Programmer. To culminate, in 2007 he was the only non-academic to present a juried paper (“Websites as Non-profit Marketing Information Systems”) at the annual national conference for the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators (ACME) in San Diego.

Later he became a Henry Clay Scholar at Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law and received the Marilyn Wall Scholarship for Excellence in Environmental Law in 2012. In September of 2013, twenty-one months before the SCOTUS decided Obergefell, Mark drafted and filed the first marriage-equality complaint in Kentucky State Court (KEF v. Beshear).

Mark has been a member of the Kentucky (2013-2022) and Washington (2016-present) state bar associations. Mark maintained his solo law practice until his semi-retirement in 2021.

Since then, he has founded and directs a private grant-making foundation in support of media literacy (ML) . To inform these efforts, he also earned his Media Literacy Education certification.
